Bringing the men back to Newmarket

Friday 11th August - almost exactly 8 years since I first had contact with Hong Kong - I was finally able to bring the completed research back to its hometown.  Newmarket is a small, north Cork town, mainly involved in agriculture.  But that Friday one of its best kept secrets - the many Hongkong Policemen it had produced - were recalled as part of Scullysfest, its yearly extravaganza of music, arts, culture and craic. 


Thanks to Maria Herlihy of The Corkman, who gave it a great spread in the following week's issue.  'Clan do' sounds rather like that SCMP article of many years ago, though ....
